This photograph is from Chiara Goia. This week the Guardian ran an article about some amazing recent developments in rice farming in India. An organic farming technique, called SRI plants seeds in close proximity and emphasizes dry soil and aggressive weeding to promote air flow. SRI has produced stunning results, including record breaking, per hectare yields.
We’re very happy to begin working with Alanna Hale, a very talented local photographer. Here is one of her aerial photos from a shoot in our dining room last year. You can check out more of her work here, and soon, from us too.
The Internet is woefully lacking in the imagery of Burle Marx, a Brazilian landscape architect who, in addition to his built work, did gorgeous Kandinsky-ish paintings of his designs. A mid-century modernist who did work all over South America, and collaborated with Niemeyer on several public gardens in Brasília.
Flashback: Sam and Kitty Complete the Santa Cruz Olympic Triathlon
Love this picture of Sam and Kitty, two of our bartenders, just after the Santa Cruz Triathlon. Given the long hours behind the bar and that Kitty is raising an adorable little man, the already impressive feat becomes even more so.

For the month of October, Nopalito, along with dozens of other vendors, have taken to the Presidio for the weekly, Off the Grid Picnic at the Presidio series. They did an awesome video detailing the event. Check it out! Hope to see you there tomorrow.

You like what’s happening with the weather right now? Well, you’d like it even more if you were having a picnic in the park. An Off The Grid Picnic, for that matter.
Nopalito will be joining Dixie, Bar Crudo Namu Gaji and many others for an afternoon of sun, food, drink and leisure. There will even be “blanket service” cocktails! Can you imagine..!? There will be bocce and lots of other cool retail stuff too.
This is an inaugural event to take place each Sunday, so it’s not the end of the world if you can’t make it tomorrow. But why wait? Tomorrow will be beautiful and Hardly Strictly is sure to free up a bit more space on the lawn. Or, if you prefer, it’ll be a nice precursor to an evening of Bluegrass.
When: Every Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (Through October 28th)
Where: Main Post Lawn, Owens St., at Anza Ave., Presidio.
