Rooftop Basketball at the Tenderloin School

The Tenderloin school is located on Turk and Van Ness. Before BAWCC transformed it into a groundbreaking elementary school in 1995, it’s previous life was considerably more mundane. It used to be a parking garage. One of the coolest things about the school is the rooftop. They have a spectacular view of the Downtown Civic Center and beautifully paved basketball courts. The kids play basketball under sunny skies to the backdrop of gilded Federal infrastructure.  The setup would be the envy of even a professional basketball player.

*On Friday September 28th, Nopa is hosting a 3-Course Benefit Dinner at the Tenderloin Community School. This week, our content will focus on sharing the story of the origins of this school, and the incredible force behind it, the Bay Area Women and Children’s Center.
