You guys know La Cocina? You should. They are a nonprofit. A food nonprofit based here in San Francisco. Their mission is to support immigrant and minority entrepreneurs developing food businesses, or as it reads on the site, simply, cultivating food entrepreneurs. This is done primarily through their incubator kitchen located in the Mission.

They are a very popular organization among chefs here. We suspected that was true, but on Saturday August 18th, that will become evident for over 80,000 people. That is the projected attendance for the 4th Annual San Francisco Street Food Festival. Clearly the mission and the impact have resonated. Over half of the 80 vendors participating, are alumni of the program. In a way it is a fundraiser, but really it is a celebration. A celebration for the organization, vendors and dining community.

This year, La Cocina has introduced another event that actually is a fundraiser. It’s called Night Market and Nopalito is participating. The event is on Friday August 17th at the Alemany Farmers Market (100 Alemany Blvd Bernal Heights).  The event will go from 6PM-9PM and as described by the organizers, it will be

reminiscent of the nighttime markets in Bangkok or Singapore, with music, dancing, drinks, twinkling lights, and the enjoyment of many and varied flavors

That sounds like a great event for $25. The tickets are tax-deductible and available at different levels. Check it all out here. We’ll keep you guys posted as the full roster of chefs for Night Market is announced.
