Blind Tasting Haikus: By Alyssa Shepherd
Alyssa is a server at Nopa. She is enthusiastic about wine (especially Spanish wines) and has led tastings for us in the past. In lieu of posting mundane tasting notes, she opted for a haiku series from a blind tasting a few weeks back. But this isn’t her first haiku rendezvous. In fact, she is to be credited with the first ever post on our Nopalize blog.
Oh, a blind tasting
Make an educated guess
With sight, smell, taste, feel
Pale gold-ish, the first
It’s got flowers, stone fruit, musk
Brambly and weighty
Pretty minerals
Honeysuckle and lychee?
Yes! It’s Pinot Blanc

Second: Reddish brick
Cloudy. Unfiltered, this is?
And what acid here!
Herbs and meat and spice
Earth, mushroom, funk. My goodness!
Garnacha it is!

Last is clear, purple
Rosemary, cherries abound
Mint, crushed raspberry
Bold and bright, just right
Yet another Garnacha!
Oh my! Quel surprise!
All from 2010
Balanced, versatile, lively
What fun, tasting blind!
