Lettie Teague is the former editor of Food & Wine. Admittedly, it took stumbling upon this video to learn that, but it makes sense. In this video about being a Sommelier, she articulates really well the “other” aspects of the job that are far less glamorous than tasting wine all day. In particular, it was nice to hear her speak on the physical nature of the job; an important element that is not often discussed or understood. Consider how heavy it is to pick up a case of wine. Unloading and stacking these cases for consumption is quite a work out. We should all be extra nice to the somms that take this on in restaurants with lots of stairs…
