John McEnroe Comes to Nopalito: A Story
Yesterday, as one of our most frequent and favorite brunchers reported, we were very busy.
In the late afternoon, one of the greatest tennis players in American history came to our door. We were thrilled, but sadly, couldn’t promise brunch at such a late hour.
bummer.
But, our hosts, quick on their feet, suggested that he visit our sister down the road. So Mr. McEnroe went to Nopalito. He’s probably glad he did, because this is what he had for lunch.
Carnitas!
Carnitas: cinnamony, citrusy, braised pork, are a staple at Nopalito. They come tucked in parchment paper and served with crunchy, spicy slaw, tomatillo salsa, housemade tortillas and pickled jalapeño. If this is the concession to Nopa brunch, we surrender.
Mr. McEnroe chased the carnitas with a ginger lemonade, which sounds like quite the pairing. Hopefully this is what he felt like when he left.
