Last Night, Michael Pollan Had Dinner at Nopa
For self proclaimed activists or at least participants in the local food movement, this was very cool. Xandre was giddy. I was too, actually. It was a weird feeling to be in awe of someone in the same way you’d be in awe of a favorite athlete or musician, only to realize the subject is a soft spoken (though outspoken) academic in their mid fifties. But that’s Michael Pollan. No one...

Honored to be Number One burger in San Francisco →
But, please note that we do not use Marin Sun Farms chuck any longer.
Instead, we proudly use Prather Ranch, located in Northern California near Mt. Shasta.

N.O.P.A. : AN ACRONYM, AND ALSO A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN
Last weekend, I had the fine pleasure of attending the Western Addition restaurant, Nopa, for a bountiful brunch.
Nopa is located at Divasadero and Hayes. It’s this mysterious looking building — in fact, it barely has…

Perhaps a reminder
I came across this quote for the second time in my life and now, having ventured more deeply into the world of food and wine, it resonates quite differently than it did when I was in high school. Even as I began to develop an interest in food and wine, I hardly ever associated them with anything political. I know this association develops according to where you are raised, where you get your food,...

Girl Scout Cookies were ubiquitous in my house when I was growing up. We were not just users, either. We were dealers. My mom was the Avon Barskdale of the Stone Mountain Troop of Cadette’s or Brownies or whatever they were. I didn’t care. I was just so glad to have all those cookies in the…

A Heroine In South Africa's Wine Industry →
After a long night of work, ironically, straight to bed is never the natural order. Inevitably I find myself creeping around the NY Times website to put my eyes to rest. This morning I took even less sleep when I came across an article that kept me awake with excitement.
It is the story of…

First in a multimedia gallery of a day at Robert Sinskey Vineyards. On August 22, team Nopa took a visit to one of our favorite producers in Napa. They were incredibly hospitable and prepared a very special lunch for us. Here is a panoramic of our luncheon set up and pristine views.

I miss summer already. Not that it’s over, but I notice the days are shorter. And since I live in San Francisco ( a very windy pocket in fact), I should celebrate this. After all, we call our summer “Indian” and experience it when the rest of the country welcomes autumn. The whole thing about our summers being cold winters has a bit of merit.
And even though I travel to work...

Who Knew Bill Clinton Was a Vegan!? →
Not surprisingly, this was prompted by his quadruple bypass last year. He talks about it here with Dr. Gupta on CNN. Given his well publicized affinity for eating (even subject of SNL fodder), this is obviously a significant ambassador for veganism. Hopefully people will begin to take seriously the merits of a healthy diet for preventative and recuperative healing.
